1.5 Years in RP Status!

Word clouds are cool.  Really cool.  They are a nice way to show a visual depiction of word content and frequency – in this case the status updates of our users over the last year and a half.  The bigger the word the more frequently it has been used.  We had to truncate the list at words which appeared more than 15 times.

Honorable mentions:

  • shredded: 4
  • god: 4
  • wtf: 3
  • lumberjack: 3
  • advil: 2
  • meliora: 2
  • buckyball: 1
  • mosquito: 1
  • swordsman: 1

What else would you like to see word clouds used for on the site?

Get the RP WebOS App!

After many late nights, RunPartner is pleased to announce the release of their new WebOS mobile App.

We listened to the dun of mobile application requests from our users and the trend was clear. WebOS was what the populace wanted, winning out over Android and iPhone. Your wish is our command.

With the new app you can do everything you would on the site, but in your hand. Log your run directly after your run, or even during the run! The possibilities are endless.

Shoe AutoUpdater

January 17th, 2011

Due to popular demand for shoe models to be added or updated in the Gear page, we’ve implemented a shoe model autoupdater. Numerous times every month, we check many online shoe retailers for new shoes models and versions and update our show database accordingly.

At present, you have 2915 shoes/models to choose from. As always, if we don’t have what you need, just drop us a line via the Bug Reporter .

Update

Barefoot Running

January 13th, 2011

Now available

Barefoot and near barefoot running is taking on in the U.S., so RunPartner is taking notice. We’ve updated the Shoe Database that power the Gear section of RP with Vibram brand running shoes. While they may not be conventional to most, they have grown in popularity such that they can no longer be ignored.

If you are a fan of barefoot running we’ve got you covered now too. Just select the brand Barefoot in the Add Shoe page, and then you will have the [Barefoot] option available in your shoes list in the Add Activity page. You can then track how far you run barefoot, verses with shoes.

Update

Barn Door’s Open

December 21st, 2010

Barn Door's Open

That’s right, to celebrate the Winter Solstice we’re no longer a Limited Beta. The barn door’s open and anyone can join. The site remains a Beta because we are still running around furiously behind the curtains working on the tubes. Beta will cease once the remaining 15 features on our punch list are deployed.

Keep Using Invites!

Team invites and friend invites are still important because they let your friends join and immediately become a member/friend of the team/user. We’ve kicked your quota up to 30 now for user invites and team invites are unlimited. Please keep spreading the word.

Registration Simpler

Finally, we cut the length of the registration page by 60% to make joining as easy as possible. Note that username was removed because we have decided to use actual names on RunPartner. Originally the name design was similar to legacy sites which have only obfuscating, cryptic usernames such as lasersaber34 rather than John Smith. Given the proliferation of social networking sites, it appears users are comfortable to use their names. This is now our site design which should be simpler and more straightforward for everyone. Let us know if it chafes.
